Teaching in the
age of AI

As AI tools increase in capability, how might educators adapt and measure their teaching and learning techniques? Here is your place to share your ideas and results. This site is for educators, students, and curious people to explore what AI changes in the classroom and beyond, including techniques in human-only learning.

Plug-and-play teaching tools

A place for teachers to share lessons that others can try and to compare what students learn.

Contribute a lesson
Share the learning goal, materials, instructions, and what students should be able to do afterward.
Try and evaluate a lesson
Describe your class, what you adapted, and what worked in your setting.
Report a measure of success
Share what you measured, how you measured it, and what changed. Examples include a short pre/post quiz, a rubric score, or an independent follow-up task.

Preview. Lesson submissions and shared results are planned.

Teaching

↑

I teach computer science at Saginaw Valley State University. These courses offer different ways to ask what students should be able to explain, build, and verify for themselves.

Theory of Computation
Use machines, languages, and proofs to explore the limits of computing.
Mobile App Development
Turn an idea into a prototype and learn from testing it with people.
Cybercrime
Study how people misuse technology and how to respond.

Current focus · AI and Theory of Computation Education

I study how AI can support the teaching and learning of theory of computation, and how to measure what students can explain and solve independently. One line of work compares how language models answer textbook questions about automata, formal languages, and computability.

Earlier research

Distributed Computation

How networked computers coordinate to perform a shared task.

Location Privacy

Protecting location information in vehicular networks.

Security in networks of connected devices.
